Part C - Elective Courses

In Part C list the remaining courses and vacation(s) you want to take in the fourth year in their order of priority to you from top to bottom. Since the computer program will not be able to make assignments to any remaining available month of a course (as it did in Part B), you should list as many months as possible for each one . For this reason you may want to list up to three possible months if you have some flexibility. For example:

The computer will attempt assignment going from left to right, row by row. If none of the months you list happens to be available, the computer will proceed to the following course slot. All students will be assigned to course 1 before processing begins for course slot 2.

If you cannot be assigned to one of your courses/months, you will be short one course on your schedule and you will need to fill that gap later.

Another option in Part C is to list two or three courses in a single course slot, any one of which you feel could meet your needs, such as different courses in cardiology or pediatrics, so that you have a better chance of being assigned to one of them. The following example shows how this might look on the form:

For "grouped courses" (more than one course listed for the same course slot), the computer will attempt assignment from left to right, row by row. Please note that as soon as one of the courses is assigned, the remaining course choice(s) are ignored. Thus each set of "grouped courses" with the same priority number counts as only one course in your schedule.

A good strategy for listing months in Part C would be to use each of the three (assuming you listed 2 courses in Part A) months you did not use in Part A or as first choice in Part B as first choice months in Part C. Also keep in mind that, since there is no limit to the number of students who can be assigned to vacation and away elective months, you can with some assurance put these at the bottom of your Part C course slots if you use months you have not used higher in Part C. But NOTE: "DO OR DIE" COURSES OR VACATIONS MUST BE LISTED IN PART A IF YOU WANT TO BE SURE OF GETTING THEM.
