Assuming
you have no deficiencies or missing clerkships from the third year
to make up, use this part of the preference form to list
the courses that have the highest priority for you in your
fourth year. For many students the highest priority will be taking
a course with a certain faculty member who can write a letter of
recommendation supporting their application to residency training
programs. In Part A you may list up to two courses -- electives
here or away, required courses, and/or vacation.
* Guarantee: You
will be assigned to these courses during the month you indicate
unless that month is oversubscribed. In that event,
we will contact those affected and seek a resolution of the problem.
Once problems have been resolved, these two courses will be entered
into the computer, and the assignment will be "guaranteed."
*Remember, only courses listed in Part A can be guaranteed.
If you do not hear from us, this means that they have been assigned
to your schedule. The process of reviewing Part A begins
promptly at 5:00 pm on Thursday April 3rd.
Students who, for whatever reason, are required to take
third-year courses in the fourth year (other than required
fourth-year courses), MUST list those courses in
Part A. For example, if you are missing a junior
clerkship, the clerkship must be listed in Part A as top priority.
If you are only missing a month of a clerkship or have a deficiency
of some kind that requires you to take a month in some area, you
will still have one priority month you can list in Part A in addition
to your requirement. List third year clerkships as "Third-year
Medicine," "Third-year Ob/Gyn," etc. and the month you
prefer.
Third-year requirements should be completed no later than
October. You will need a grade on your transcript before
you interview for residencies and you need to complete the third
year before proceeding to the fourth year. If in doubt about the
appropriate month, consult the clerkship office.
| Note: |
Third-year rotations do not count as fulfilling
fourth-year requirements, even if you are allowed to remediate
a third-year requirement by doing a fourth-year elective. If
it counts as fulfilling the third-year requirement, it does
not count as fourth-year credit. |
