Setting Up OS X VPN Client

This document is intended to assist in connecting to the UTSCH network using the Aventail VPN Client. The instructions below assume that you are using OS X 10.4 or later, have administrator rights to your Mac, and have a UT user ID and password. If you are unsure whether your computer meets these requirements, please contact your LAN Manager.
  1. Download the Mac VPN client here.
     
  2. The downloaded file should be called aventailconnect-osx.zip. Double-click this file to unzip another file called AventailConnect-OSX.dmg.

  3. Double-click AventailConnect.dmg, then double-click the icon for Aventail Connect.pkg.

  4. In the installer window, click Continue.

  5. Select the location you would like to install the VPN client to (generally "Macintosh HD"), and click Continue.
     
  6. Click Install, and enter your username and password when prompted.
     
  7. Double-click the icon for Aventail Connect in the directory you chose to install to (most likely Macintosh HD/Applications).
     
  8. When the program opens, use the drop-down menu to select "UTHSCH Employees & Students@govpn.uth.tmc.edu".
     
  9. If you see the following message regarding a certificate, click Show Certificate.
     
  10. Check the box for Always Accept and then click Accept.
     
  11. Enter your UTHSCH UserID and password, and click OK.
     
  12. Once connected, you will see a window similar to the following. Do not close this window until you are ready to disconnect from the VPN.
