Svetlana Malkina, M.D.

Biography:

Dr. Malkina, who is originally from Ukraine, graduated medical school in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Raised in a family of physicians, she always wanted to become a psychiatrist.

After graduating from medical school, Dr. Malkina worked in Moldova as a family physician for 10 years. She came to the US to complete her training in New York and at Baylor College of Medicine, after which she joined the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Malkina has worked at Harris County Psychiatric Center for the past 9 years, seeing acutely ill psychiatric patients. She is actively involved in the training of medical students during their clerkship rotations at HCPC, and also works with residents. Dr. Malkina appreaciates both aspects of her work and says there is nothing more rewarding than seeing how patients improve or students become more independent.
