Dr.
Nancy W. Dickey, ’76 was inaugurated as the second
president of the Texas A&M University System Health Science
Center and vice chancellor for health affairs for the Texas A&M
University System in a ceremony at College Station Sept. 12.
Before
her appointment in January, Dickey served as interim dean of the
College of Medicine from August 2000-December 2001, and has been
on the faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine
at the college since 1996. A board-certified family physician,
Dickey is past president of the American Medical Association (1998-99).
She helped create the National Patient Safety Foundation and served
as its first board chair. She is also a fellow of the American
Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr.
Michael Burgess, ’77, won the seat for the 26th
Congressional District in Texas. He was sworn in as the Representative
Jan. 7, 2003.
Dr.
Deborah H. Crumbaker, ’84, reports that she is
a founding and senior partner of Brazos Valley Pathology, P.A.,
covering the Brazos Valley and Brenham, Texas. She married Mark
Oldham on April 4, 1998, and has two grandchildren, Joshua,
10, and Heather, 8.
In
1999, Dr. Tim Holder, ’87, was asked
by his Rotary Club in Muskogee, Okla., to present ideas for
an international grant project their group could undertake.
He contacted Dr. Suzanne Snyder, ’87, who works with her
family to serve the Maasai tribe in Kenya, Africa, to see if
they would submit a proposal.
Suzie
oversees a group of eight rural clinics there and frequently
hosts medical residents in an overseas elective rotation. In
2002, the project was completed as a generous grant of over
$44,000 was provided through Rotary due to Tim’s efforts.
“His persistence has paid off!,” Suzie writes. “He
visited our mission site nine years ago during a short-term
mission trip in which he and his wife worked at a Catholic hospital
in Kitui for a month. They have been faithful and encouraging
supporters of our efforts ever since.” These funds purchased
a new Toyota Landcruiser ambulance and three Yamaha DT 175 motorcycles.
Dr.
Steven Holzman, ’88, reports that he and his
wife Grace love living in Austin. Dr. Mike Phillips,
’88, delivered their second child, Edith, who joins big
brother Arthur, 2. He says that he also sees former classmates
Dr. Matt Rogers, ’88, and Dr.
Wes Glazener, ’88 around town.
Drs.
Tim and Jennifer Heath, ’90, are the proud parents
of twins, Karen and Andrew, who were born Feb. 28, 2002. The
twins were born at just 26 weeks and spent 56 days in the
neonatal intensive care unit but now are doing well, having
increased their weight nearly 10-fold by their nine-month check-up.
Ben, their big brother, turned 3 in January. Tim continues to
do internal medicine, working at a hospital on the outskirts
of Fort Worth. Jennifer is doing general adult psychiatry solely
in an office setting. They would love to hear from their classmates

Dr.
Liza Leal, ’96, of Houston, was featured in a
Prevention Magazine article about living with chronic pain.
Dr.
Mirelle Foster, ’98 and her husband Shane report
the birth of their child,
Savannah
Foster, Jan. 22, 2002. “We are really having fun watching
her grown and learn,” Mirelle reports. Mirelle recently
completed a residency and is the medical director of a rehab
unit at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital in Kerrville, Texas.
Shane is continuing to build homes and is building the family’s
new home.
Dr.
Kristin Wilke Jung, ’98, is in a private pediatric
practice in San Antonio, Texas. She recently married William
Jung, II, and they have a new baby boy, Tyler, who was born
Nov. 25, 2002.
Dr.
Gregory R. Johnson, ’99, and his wife, Shawn,
announce the birth of their first child, Garrison Royce, on
Sept. 30, 2002 in New Orleans. Gregory is completing his chief
year at Ochsner Clinic Foundation Hospital in internal medicine
and family practice and will join a hospitalist group in Tyler
upon completion of his residency.
Dr.
Laura Ann Lingle, ’99, married Richard Frederick
Whiteley Jan. 18, 2003 in Houston. She is currently in the last
year of her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at
The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Dr.
John E. Barnett Jr., ’90, died in an automobile
accident in Birmingham, Ala. Sunday, November 24, 2002. He was
board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease
and interventional cardiology and joined Southwest Cardiac Associates
in Mesquite, Texas in 1997 where practiced cardiology and cardiac
intervention until his death. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy
Barnett, RN; three children, Kimberly, Derek, and Zachary; and
his parents, Earlene and John E. Barnett, Sr.
Dr.
Thomas Dewitt Forner, ’85, of Tigard, Ore., died
in Aug. 4, 2002. He was a volunteer with the Oregon Donor Program
and was associated with Family Care Inc., in Portland. Survivors
include his wife, Diane Pace Forner, and daughter, Robin Christa
Forner.
Dr.
J. W. Baxter Jr., resident alumnus ’79, of Hope,
Ark., died April 19, 2002.
