Camp counselors needed for Camp Ailihpomeh

Volunteer male counselors aged 18 years and up, who are energetic, sociable, enthusiastic, open-minded, enjoy camp experiences, and are willing to lead a team of children in many activities are being recruited for Camp Ailihpomeh.

Camp Ailihpomeh (hemophilia spelled backwards), a summer camp for boys with bleeding disorders, takes place July 19-25. The camp is sponsored by the Gulf State Hemophilia and Thrombophilia Center and takes place in Bosque County.

Advancing Women’s Health through Collaboration: Action & Advocacy in Texas

Dr. Nancy Dickey

Dr. Nancy Dickey, president of the Texas A&M Health Science Center and vice chancellor for health affairs for the Texas A&M System, headlines this year’s TMC Women’s Health Network Advocacy Conference on Tuesday, May 13 from 11: 30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Dickey graduated from the UT Medical School in 1976.

The unique conference at Trevisio Restaurant features a luncheon at which Dickey will speak; roundtable policy discussions of mental health, violence prevention, obesity prevention, and access to care; as well as poster sessions on women’s health issues.

This statewide meeting is targeted to health professionals, researchers, health and advocacy organizations, and community members interested in working collaboratively to develop recommendations for health policy in Texas by using a "gender lens."

Dean Giuseppe Colasurdo, far right, visits with Dr. Marylee Kott '77, Dr. Sarah Galfione '06, and Dr. Alan Taylor '77 during his first Dean’s Outreach Visit with Houston-area alumni and friends April 29 at the River Oaks Country Club. Dean Colasurdo is visiting cities in Texas this year to gather insight from alumni, parents, and friends while sharing his vision for the future of the Medical School. More than 110 people attended the Houston event and the next outreach event will be in Dallas in September.
