Visit all the Silent Auction Artists
Artist: Patty Browning
Patty Browning has been painting for over 35 years. She fell in love with watercolors some 25 years ago and is still having fun with this medium. Workshops with excellent national and local artists have contributed greatly to her art education as well as her unremitting productivity level. Although traditional paper surfaces will always be a standard for her work, she has been experimenting more recently with Yupo, an archival synthetic paper. Because the pigment sits on the paper rather than being absorbed, the colors remain more vibrant and the "sliding" properties create interesting and unpredictable color and texture variations which appeal to her sense of adventure.
She has lived in Hawaii, California and Texas and her spiritual connection to these locales frequently influence subject matter selections. She often works in series presenting different perspectives on the same subject which could be Prickley Pear Cactus, Terra Cotta Pots, Angora Goats, or Dancing Koi. Trips to visit family in Hawaii always revive and inspire tropical themes.
Patty has been with the Department of Emergency Medicine as an Administrative Assistant for 3 years, but has worked in other areas of UT for a total of 20 years. Finding the time to paint or get involved in other art related activities can sometimes be a challenge, but the need to create has always been a primary focus in her life.
