About the Art Wall

The Art Wall was one product of the Beautification Committee’s redecoration of the Medical School first floor following the devastation of Tropical Storm Allison in 2001. In addition to creating a sense of the school’s history in the refurnishing, the committee wanted to support a space where members of the school’s staff, faculty, students, alumni, and physicians-in-training (and their respective families) could display their own original art work in three-month rotating exhibits. The Art Wall committee, which manages the project and reviews submissions, is appointed by the Dean.

Ever since the first exhibit opened in November, 2005, the Art Wall has generated widespread enthusiasm within the Medical School family, perhaps because it represents an intimate, personalized space where one can appreciate fine art and photography, while discovering surprising insights about the artists.

Fund-raising efforts to establish an endowment to support long-term maintenance costs for The Art Wall began with a generous contribution by Dr. Regina Verani. Additional funding will be raised at the annual Silent Auction Exhibit, featuring donated art from the year’s exhibitors, beginning in 2006. After the endowment goal is reached, all auction proceeds will be donated to the Faculty Wives and Women Faculty Organization’s Doris Simon Student Scholarship Fund.

Eligible artists may submit their work for consideration by following the guidelines and submitting an entry form found on the Art Wall web site. Questions and submissions should be sent to ms.artwall@uth.tmc.edu.

Mission Statement

The University of Texas Medical School at Houston Art Wall is a project of the Beautification Committee, designed to enrich and enhance our learning and work environment. The Wall also provides our Medical School family the opportunity to contribute to this effort and showcase their talents.
