Dr. Henry W. Strobel email Dr. Strobel

Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Alumni Relations
Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

A native Charlestonian, Dr. Strobel joined the faculty at the Medical School in 1972. He has received many distinguished awards throughout his teaching career, including honors from the National Institute of Health, TIAA-CREF, and the state of Texas. In 2010 he will celebrate the 25th anniversary of leading fourth-year students to China in order to enhance their medical education. He also founded the Henry W. Strobel Freshman Retreat, which helps entering students acclimate to life in the Medical School.

Director, Alumni Relations

Derrick joined our staff in November 2011. A native Houstonian, he moved to Austin in 2000 to attend The University of Texas at Austin where he received his BBA in Marketing in 2004. Derrick spent six years at Texas Exes, the Alumni Association of The University of Texas at Austin, where he managed the administration of the scholarship programs. He is excited to be at UTHealth and partner with the Board of Trustees of the Alumni Association to continue to connect alumni to each other and to The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Executive Services Administrator, Alumni Relations

As a long time resident of Houston, Mary possesses a long history in the Texas Medical Center with her initial stint in the mid-70s at MD Anderson Hospital and eventual transfer to the Medical School in 1977. She spent many years in the dean’s organization (dean’s office and faculty affairs under Dr. Henry Strobel) and also in academic affairs at UTHealth. In 2004, she rejoined the Office of the Dean under Dr. Stanley Schultz. She looks forward to working with the Board of Trustees of the Alumni Association and with Dr. Lowell Ku, the 2011-2012 President.
