It’s done!
We are in agreement that a good time was had by all at Homecoming
and Reunion 2006.
This was
the first time we offered a Homecoming component and we believe
the right framework is in place. However, many did not understand
that Homecoming was for all graduates, whatever the year, but
we will work on getting that word out.
We did
not begin to allow enough time for tours. Many were impressed
that the Gross Anatomy Lab now features showers and lockers and
drop-downs for laptops.. In addition we toured the Morgue which
many had never seen while they were students. Did you that know
that the Medical School supplies cadavers to UTMB? In hard hats
we trekked through the Surgical and Clinical Skills Center (SCSC)
imagining what will be possible when it opens late summer. More
information about this one-of-a-kind state-of-the art facility
can be viewed at The
Surgical and Clinical Skills Center's website.
The presentation
of the 2006 Distinguished Alumnus to Chris Farmer, M.D., ’82,
was made by Dr. James T. Willerson, President of the UT Health
Science Center at Houston. Although Dr. Farmer’s wife, Beth,
’81, was not able to join us he was surrounded by his proud
family including his sister, Kitty, ’87, and his son Christopher,
a second-year medical student.
Planning
for a new Distinguished Alumnus Wall has been underway for a while
and the new design is stunning. We toasted the newly installed
Wall and recognized those Distinguished Alumni with us:
Chris Farmer, ’82, 2006 Distinguished Alumnus
Mark Farnie,
’87, 2004 Distinguished Alumnus
Donald
Nino, ’83, 1999 Distinguished Alumnus.
The classes
of 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991 and 1996 were recognized at the Reunion
Dinner. Original photo class rosters were displayed and caused
laughter and stories to be shared. A violinist and cellist performed
throughout the evening and photographs were taken of each alumnus
and guest. The photographs were then presented at the end of the
evening in a frame featuring the association logo. Class pictures
of the beautiful people were taken as well and can be viewed here.
The program was short and people enjoyed visiting and catching
up. Many were disappointed that more from their class were not
there but promised to get the word out to their classmates for
2011.
Thank
you to all who participated in this great event. It was fun, we
got caught up on what is happening at the Medical School and renewed
relationships with classmates. That was our objective. We look
forward to your feedback to improve next year’s event. |
